Hi! I've been using Paperbackswap for a while but haven't run into this particular problem. I posted a book that I knew had been wishlisted by about 10 people, and received a "book requested" e-mail today. However, there is a Requestor Condition on there of "Non-smoking house". We don't smoke but I bought the book used and can't vouch that it has never been in a non-smoking house. It doesn't smell like smoke. So my first instinct is to say it doesn't meet the conditions and pass on this request. There's no way to contact the requestor, correct? If I reject the request, and he/she decides that the condition of my book is OK (which I assume it would be), there's not a way for him/her to say, "No, it really is OK - send the book!" Thanks in advance for your help! |

From all of the posts I have seen in this forum regarding this particular RC, the person means that the current home must be non-smoking (which your home is). They don't expect you to know the history of the used book. (If they said "never been in a smoking environment, that is a different story.) If your book does not smell like smoke to you, then go ahead and accept the condition and send the book. Unless the person puts their nickname in their RC, there is no way for you to contact them prior to accepting the book. Since the book is wishlisted, if you reject the request, the book goes to the next in the wishlist line. Hope this helps. |

Hi Juliana: If you have a pretty good sense of smell do the sniff test. If you smell smoke I would decline. If you are still uncomfortable you can accept the request with the longest mail date. Then you could PM the sender and let them know that it was purchased used and though you do not smoke. If they do not reply then just cancel the request. Though you will need to repost and it will go back directly to this person because they are next in line for the book. If you just decline it should roll over to the next person on the WL. Hope this helps. Debbie is correct in regards to the posts and the responses. Personally - smoke smell is subjective so unless I feel that the book does not have a smoke smell to it - I would decline the request or I would do the above - accept and PM the requester. That is me and my comfort level. |

Thanks so much for your replies! I have accepted the request and PM'd the requestor. I'll wait to see what she says! |
