How do I set up requestor conditions for only one book already on my wish list? That is, I don't have anything special condition request beyond PBS regulations for anything, except for one particular book. I say as much, mentioning that my request ONLY applies to that title/edition, but people keep denying books, saying it doesn't meet conditions, even though it's not that for a different book entirely. (Though this particular posting doesn't seem to make sense--I am writing at 1 am after all--the condition request itself is fairly clear, in my opinion.)
ETA: Here's what I have: "I have no special conditions outside of what's required by PBS, but I'm really hoping to have the dust jacket included with the Harry Potter hardcover, pretty please. THIS CONDITION ONLY APPLIES TO HARRY POTTER. All other hardcovers don't need a dust jacket. Thank you!" I get notices saying stuff like, "I can't send because it's a paperback"--of a non-Harry Potter book, I might add-- or "I don't have Harry Potter." How can I avoid this confusion and stop getting my book requests declined? Luckily, the declines are not often, but disappointing enough that I'd like to find some way either to fix my "outgoing message" or have it apply ONLY to the Harry Potter books currently on my WL. Make sure that the Harry book has the auto request OFF. Then, when you are offered that one book (with the 48 hour acceptance feature), write your requestor condition and turn it on under your settings. After that book has been accepted, you can turn the RC back off. |

Oh, that makes sense. But, just so I understand, in that scenario, during the time it takes for me to turn on my settings and then turn it off once the book is accepted, will that message pop up for, let's say, five other books that are offered simultaneously? If it were me, this is what I would do to avoid any misconceptions: Change your RC to: * If the book I have requested is a paperback, please send. * If the book I have requested is a Harry Potter hardcover book, please include its dust jacket. * If the book I have requested is a hardcover book other than a Harry Potter book, no dust jacket is required. Thanks. I don't know how anyone couldn't understand the above. Plus, this would avoid having to turn off and on your RC conditions which can be annoying to you. I think there are people who have comprehension problems with some RC's. For instance, I have a RC requesting no books that have pages that turned brown and/or smell from mold/mildew. I've received responses like: This book has dog eared pages - does not meet conditions. This book has been read several times - does not meet conditions I have gone back in and removed my conditions for the above two transactions. I received both books and they were fine. I truly believe the people were "afraid" of the fact that there was a RC. I wish you luck in communicating your simple request concerning Harry Potter. |

I agree with what Emily said. Turn on that particular RC only if you are offered that particular book (turn it on before you accept the offer). The RC is only shown when a WL book offer is accepted by you - or auto requested (which is you accepting the book automatically). So, if 5 other books were on auto request while your RC is on, then yes that RC would apply to all books accepted while it is on. If you do not have any books on auto request, then the RC will only apply as you accept the WL offer, so you can turn it on and then back off between offers. You don't actually have to wait until the request is accepted to turn the RC off. Just turn the RC on, click I Want This Book, enter the mailing address and hit confirm. (At this point, the request, with the conditions applied, is showing on the sender's My Account page.) Then turn the RC off in your account. Your RC would be on for only a couple of minutes, so it's very unlikely that you'd have several other books offered to you during that time. If you do it this way, your RC doesn't even have to mention Harry Potter. It can just say "Please don't send this book unless it also has the dust jacket." It's pretty hard to misinterpret that. |

And remember to hit the save button at the bottom of the section when toggling your RC on and off, otherwise the setting won't change. Seems obvious, but I have proved that it can be missed! ;) |

I have been using this RC on the books for which I want the dust jacket, with no issues so far (knock on wood), turning it on and revising just when accepting a particular book offer. Good luck!
Please decline the request for the following book if it does not include the dust jacket. Thank you! Here I cut and paste the information about the book from the WL offer tab. |

Turn the requestor condition on BEFORE you accept the book offer. Then turn if off after you accept the book. |

Thanks everyone for your great advice! |
