I have a book requested for the first time with conditions and can't figure out how to pm the requester to ask her what she would like me to do. The condition is that the book not have been exposed to smoke recently. Now, I don't smoke, but my husband does...in a back room of our house, not where our books/family rooms are. I know some people are really allergic to smoke, and I have sniffed this book a thousand times :) and smell nothing but "book" smell but I am worried about sending a book that may smell like smoke and I not be able to smell it. It is a wish list book and I would hate for her to lose it but don't know what to do. Do I send or cancel?
Thanks, :)

You should decline to send the book. Requestor conditions are supposed to be written in such a way that you can be sure about whether or not a given book meets them. If you're not sure what to do, that's a reason to decline. If it's a wish listed book, it will go on to the next wisher. You might mention in your response about why you're declining that the member asked you to PM but failed to provide any info that would help you find her. There is no PM button on the requestor conditions screen. |

I would click that it does not meet her conditions and let it move on to the next person on the wishlist. Some people are really sensitive to smoke and might notice a smell on it even if your husband only smokes in the back room. Better safe than sorry. |

Another incident where the person should have included their nickname or user name in the RC. |

Thanks for the advice, I went ahead and declined just to be safe. :) |

She won't lose her place in line if you decline for requestor conditions. My husband has started smoking the occasional cigar in the house. I've decided that from now on I'm denying RC's with a non-smoking request. Better safe than sorry. Our house is huge and he smokes in a room downstairs and my books are all upstairs. But I'd rather decline than have someone super sensative ding with me a RWP. |

Yes, decline and just tell the person politely in the "reason" box that your DH is a smoker, and leave it at that. Better to be safe than sorry, especially if there's likely an allergy behind the request. |

Decline. I have a "sniff test clause" but if there is smoke in your home anywhere, you have a smoking home.

I agree, if someone smokes in your house the books have been exposed to the smell and smoke. If someone has smoking book conditions about books currently in home, and your home is a non-smoking, I would PM them and give them details about the book(s). I recently accepted a 3 book request with "not currently in a smoking home conditions " . No one smokes in my house, but I sent them a PM giving the condtions of each book . I stated that 2 had yellowing on outside edges of the pages, one book a little the other yellowed a lot. The requester still wanted the books. The requester received my books as problem with book(s) said they smelled of smoke.(used books beware). I informed this person of the PM's we shared and received my 3 credits. I'm sorry to say I do not accept any type of smoking conditions request now. I understand that people have reactions and are really sensative to smells, but I swap a lot of used books, so I don't want to take that chance anymore and lose a credit.
