This has happened to me at least 4 times in the past 3 years.  This week I have gotten two requests for books that I have previously posted and sent to members a LONG time ago.  These books are NOT on my posted books list.

Why is this happening?  I think it's weird.  I don't do anything out of the normal when posting and receiving requests.  Is there anything else I should do other than cancelling the requesting and giving an explanation why?

Thanks,

Laurel

Use contact us below and send in feedback.  Obviously a glitch in the system at times with your account.  Only they can fix it.

Yes, what Coz said.

Go to the bottom right corner of any page, and under "company" click on "contact us."  Use the Feedback option. The book won't be on your bookshelf once it's been requested, though.  You might check through this help doc before contacting the Admin Team:

I got a request for a book I don't have

The book must have been on your bookshelf in order to have been requested.  If it is a title you don't recognize, perhaps the ISBN was entered incorrectly when you Posted it.   If it has been on your Bookshelf a long time, you may have forgotten that you posted it at all!

If you posted the book incorrectly (entered the correct ISBN from the book but did not notice that the title/author on the listing preview did not match your book before you clicked "Post This Book"), then that can explain why you would get a request for a title you don't have. Publishers sometimes use the same ISBN for multiple books, or re-use old ISBNS.  PBS can have only one listing for each ISBN, so that is why you need to check that the title, author and binding type match on the listing that comes up for the ISBN you entered when you are posting a book.  See Solutions to common Book Posting Problems for instructions on how to post your book if the listing that comes up for an ISBN does not match the book you have.

Check your Transaction Archive (and your past Box-O-Books transactions, if you are a Boxer) to be sure that you have not confused this title with another.   You can get to your Transaction Archive from the menu that drops down from My Account in the toolbar at the top of the site.

If you previously sent out a copy of this book, it might have been double-posted to your bookshelf by mistake: sometimes a book is double-posted onto a member's bookshelf (either by a server-hiccup or by the posting member clicking Refresh on the browser while the posting is in process).  You also might have posted it twice by accident.

Please note:

  • You will not see the book on your bookshelf when it is actively involved in a request.
  • If you have accepted the request, the date that the book was posted will appear on the request.
    • If you are a Book Journal subscriber, the space that you assigned the book to will also appear on the request.
  • After you click or on the request, the book will be removed from your bookshelf entirely.
