7 years ago, I brought home two three week old pit bull sisters, Opie & Athena. They lived here together until nine months ago when they started fighting & they became natural enemies. My grown, irresposible , daughter took Athena home with her. Because when pit bulls fight, it is extreme. Teeth bared,  nostrils flared,  & they will fight to death. Water hoses nothing works to get them apart but a bully club inserted in the jaws. It takes two people to disengage them. It is a very bad thing to watch. I cannot believe people would fight these dogs for entertainment????????????? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have nothing good to say about that & I think people who do this intentionally should be imprisoned, NO MATTER WHO THEY ARE!!!!!!!!!!

Needless to say, I thought my daughter could feed & water a pet. I was wrong. I went over yesterday with a SEVERE bad attitude , demanding my dog back. She is skin & bones. I called the vet. He said to keep doing what I've been doing. Ol Roy drizzled with milk 3-4 times daily until she is better.

But, do any of ya'll have any suggestions on how to fatten her back up? Should I buy vitamins? If so what kind? Any suuggestions on homemade dog food?

 Thanks, Shanna

I think I will do just that. Take her to the vet, that is. It has been a few years since she went. But, since her sister died from renal disease , it might be a good idea to do routine blood work as well. What is a raw diet? Thank you so much for youur reply.

Old Roy is about the worst dog food on the market -- I'm not sure why a vet would recommend it -- please don't feed that.  I can put you in touch with people who know a great deal about dog foods, if you'd like.  PM me.  I am being very presumptuous, but I have to suggest that your vet might not be knowledgeable about quality food.  And if he/she doesn't know about that, it makes me uneasy.

I do dog rescue, am president of a collie rescue group.  We've done a whole lot of homework on the care of dogs.  I'd be willing to share with you any information that would help.

Egads! Ol Roy and Milk??? Deffinetly not!

It is a sad fact that most vets today do not know diddly about dog foods. There is a great site http://www.dogaware.com (dogaware.com) to read about dog foods and more. Another great site is http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/ (dogfoodanalysis.com) which is a bit subjective but excellent none-the-less.

For putting weight on a dog quickly I often use Satin Balls http://www.holisticdog.org/Nutrition/Satinballs/satinballs.html - to satin ball recipe

I third the advice to get rid of the Ol Roy.  Your dog needs a quality dog food that has meat as the main ingredient.  She probably also needs to be seen by a vet.  Good luck!

I have taken her to the vet & we are doing a raw diet until she gets better, she also has more energy & is now playing with the 2 puppies. Thanks for all your advice. It has been a Godsend.
