The Resident Witch Author:Marian T. Place Young Witcheena, lowly apprentice witch, lived with her Senior Witch aunt whiel her mother was traveling in outer space on business. She was due to fly up to Junior Witch as soon as she could show Auntie and her elders she knew how to handle some suitable stunts. Thus she was out night after night doing things like causing all the lights to go o... more »ut at a carnival, or delating all the balloons.
While on these errands, she thought it would be nice to have a friend, and quickly changed herself to an earthling like one she saw at the carnival. It turned out to be so much fun she was almost sorry to go back to Auntie's house.
Her state of earthling life drew Witcheena back to the carnival for another meeting with her friend. But she couldn't resist a witchlike stunt, and flew a space ship over the carnival grounds, convincing many people it was a flying saucer.
Witcheena knew she must do something spectacular to qualify her finally for Junior Witch status, and convince Auntie and her friends of her true talents as a witch. When a new childrens' amusement park was built, and the children voted for a resident witch who would live there all the time just because it was so much fun to be deliciously frightened when you knew there really was no danger, Witcheena decided she must try for this job. Of course, she would try-out as an earthling like the others. What happened was exciting in both worlds. Story and illustrations combine here to offer a delightful picture of a witch who is willing and able to adapt herself to the times.« less
