I gave this 250 pages to win me over and it fell a little short. Rankin comes across intelligently, but there was too much inconsequential chat, and almost no action.

Lively suspense in Edinburgh, Scotland. Inspector John Rebus makes a great hard-boiled, cynical Scottish cop. Drug heist, scandal, conspiracy, violence - lots of fun.

This was my first experience with Rankin's Inspector Rebus series of books. I loved the plot lines that Rankin creates. They are exciting and unexpected. The Inspector Rebus character is edgy--throughout I was not 100% sure whether I liked him or not but I was always interested.
