Hi! Here's a question.....
A member requested a book from me. When it came time to mail it to her---well, I couldn't find the book.. I cancelled the book by clicking "cancel" (I can't find the book) button on the box in the list of books to send and informed the member that I lost the book and it was cancelled. She is now worried that she does not have her credit back from this order, in fact is sure that the credit is not returned. I can not find any evidence one way or another. I went to the transaction page and the book does not show up in the list. Also, in the credit registry nothing shows up to help me answer this question. Can some one tell me.... what happens when you cancel someone's order after it has been requested, (and before it was mailed)? I'd be very grateful! thanks much, dawna H.

Their credit is automatically returned by the system, though it may take an hour or something. |

If you (the sender) cancel the request, then one of two things happens: - if there are other copies of the book, the request is forwarded along to the next member who posted it and the requestor does not get her credit back - if there are no other copies of the book in the system, then the book goes onto the requestor's wish list and she gets her credit back You should definitely not give her a credit. You never got a credit from her, which is why you can't see anything in your Credit Registry. The requestor should look at three things in her own account: the Transaction Archive where she will see the canceled request from you; the Credit Registry, where she will either see her credit was returned or not; her My Account page, where she will either see an active transaction or not. If she can't reconstruct the sequence of events, then she should click on the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page and ask for help from R&R. |

You never got the credit before you canceled the order (you would get it only when it would be marked received by the requestor). If they are missing the credit, they would need to contact R&R to have it looked into. You do not owe them a credit |

Wow, talking about quick. thank you very much. I so much appreciate your comments.!!!! Yes, I had a feeling that this was the case, as I've never had to return credits to with canceled books---but she was insistent. But, if she wants a credit that bad---well, I'd be happy to give it her! thanks all so much! dawna H. |

I am the person that the issue is with. She marked the book MAILED and then afterwards emailed to say that she couldn't find it. She might have cancelled somehow but my credit is missing and it still shows as to be received in my account page. It is different than if she cancelled before she ever marked sent. Anyway I was extremely nice and polite about the issue but she was very insistent that she did what she was supposed to do- and maybe she was I just told her that it is not resolved on my end i.e. I have not received my credit and it still shows to be received PLUS I never received any cancellation notices from Paperback Swap. So yes I will be contacting customer service because it might not be either one of ourr faults it just may be the system. |

Actually, I did not mark the book MAILED. I do that after I package the book. I couldn't even find the book and it was never packaged---and although you will have to take my word for it, I did not package it and mark it mailed. I cancelled the order before I even got to that point to mark it mailed. Sorry, but I did not mark it MAILED.
Gosh, why do you think I'm try to cheat you Lyn. Not for one second was I trying to cheat you. I couldn't find the book and did not mark it mailed as I did not mail it. I always mark MAILED on the day I have it mailed it or know that I will be mailing it on that day. This book never made it that far. Lyn, please!!!

Lyn, the request may have gone onto another member, who did mail the book. Click "PM this member" next to the transaction and see who comes up. Is it Dawna or someone else? If it's someone else, then Dawna's responsibility in the swap is over, and you should expect to receive the book from another member in the next few weeks. Consider the issue closed, I think this person Dawna is really over reacting because I never said cheat and seriously have been very cordial in the issue. Frankly I'd rather just eat the credit if I knew it was going to turn into what it has. As I told her in a pm consider the issue closed, I've taken it up with the site itself. |

Lyn, I would bet that the book order has moved on to the next person in the FIFO line and the book is on it way to you, from another member. As Britney says, go look at the name when you hit the PM button, it most likely is not Dawna. Dawna would not have your credit if she cancelled the order, it is not possible in the system. |

None of this minutia matters as even if she marked the book mailed, she wouldn't get the credit until the receiver marks it received. No matter what Dawna did or did not do is of no consequence. Until the receiver marks the book received, the credit does NOT go to Dawna's account (unless she used DC). edited to say Lyn, also check your credit registry Last Edited on: 1/12/08 1:49 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Lyn, I apologize. I have serious illness which no doubt effects my emotions. It seemed very apparent that I didn't have your credit but you continued to feel that I did.. Perhaps I have interpreted your statements wrongly. But,. I'm not sure why you said that "this person Dawna's statements are not accurate". Don't think I said one inaccurate thing. Because you were confused and insistent, you seemed more than a little bothered. Nevertheless, I am sorry. I hope you get your book or your credit back Last Edited on: 1/12/08 2:13 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Thanks Cindy, appreciate your response. Maybe this thread has cleared some confusion for some other people too wondering the same thing.
Thanks all for your responses. Greatly appreciated.

I agree that it looks like the book rolled over to the next person and was mailed probably pretty quickly. The requestor should see the book as being on it's way to her in the Books Enroute to Me tab. If she looks in her transaction history it should show the 1st order as cancelled since it was accepted and then cancelled by the sender. |
