I was so excited to get my first book that I checked it in before I took the wrapper off. When I took the wrapper off I found that it was taped to the book. I carefully took the tape off and I peeled part of the wording on the cover off. It's about the size of a 50 cent piece. Have I made the book unpostable? I probably should have marked it RWP, but I was the one who peeled off the words. I don't know if it's a keeper or not yet, but I had wanted the option to re-post it. ~Karen~ |

The cover is still intact, right? You just tore off part of the surface? If so I would say it is still postable. The torn cover guideline says tears up to 1 inch and that sounds like it is less than 1 inch anyway. Just my 2 pennys.

Yup. Still sounds postable to me. Especially since it sounds like it just damaged the artwork on the cover. If you'd torn the cover through and it was more than an inch worth, then it wouldn't be postable. |

Can you tape that piece back on? If it's smaller than 1" it's still postable. |

Well, if it is the size of a half-dollar, it is likely bigger than the 1". I have a quarter here and it measures 1", so a 50cent piece will be larger. Now, taping directly to the book is a no-no, so if they caused the book to be unpostable, It is too late to mark it RWP, but I would still ask for my credit back. ETA: This is from the Help Center under General Guidelings for Wrapping: How to Wrap a Book Do not apply tape directly to the book! This can damage the book when the package is opened.

It says several places that you do not tape to the book....you should at the very least give a heads up to the person |

It sounds like the book is probably postable. Technically, I think you are supposed to mark "wrapper taped to the cover" books received with a problem, at least if you damage them when opening them, and choose "damaged by sender." I can understand if you don't want to do that, but do be sure to send a PM telling them that while you were happy to get the book, you want to be sure that taping the wrapper to the cover is against the rules. I always let people know that I'm interested in saving them trouble in the future rather than complaining about the book I received. |
