This book could be one of the best "self help" books out there. Political, personal and moving - would recommend to anyone that wants to understand themselves and humanity on a deeper level.

Interesting and user friendly! The chapters do not build on one another and can be read in whatever order you like. Really enjoyed the chapter on romance vs. love. Interesting profiles on Adolf Hitler, Julie Andrews, Charlotte and Emily Bronte. She also shares many of her own experiences for better or worse. Feels more like an intimate conversation with a respected friend than a traditional self help book. Highly recommend.

Basically a book about the feminist revolution from the prespective from someone who lived it.

This was the first explicitly "feminist" book I ever read. I was 16, and it was a free copy that got into my hands somehow...the organization that was giving them out (don't remember who) had a little cardstock letter of their own glued to one of the blank pages in the front.

The book itself is primarily a self-help book and the psychological autobiography of one of America's most prominent second-wave feminists. Steinem talks about a lot of woo concepts like "parenting your inner child" that I didn't agree with then and still don't today.

But what a world of difference it was to read the words of someone who didn't constantly assume, in the back of her mind, that "men and women are equal but different, and men's gifts make them the leaders" the way my church taught.

"For two decades, Gloria Steinem has led a social revolution against injstice. In Revolution from Within, she sets out to restore the self-authority that such injustice has undermined - in men as well as women, across boundaries of race, class, age, sexuality, and ability, using stories from her own life and the lives of others. As she writes it: There is always one true inner voice. Trust it."
