The author of this book is a professor of American history, so the detail is extraordinary and in-depth. Do not let the shortness of the book fool you into thinking that it is an easy read. This book is like an exceptionally rich desert - you can digest only a few bites at a time. I thought it could be a paper or thesis that some individuals are required by their professions to publish. That said, however, it is a fascinating and thorough look at the roles women played during that time. Their roles were varied and vital in numerous ways. They broke from the expected norm of society to act with courage and cunning. "...the comprehensive history illuminates a fascinating and unknown side of the struggle for American independence." Excellent! D.
