Anybody read this one? I just read it on the recommendation of a friend and would love to discuss it with others!

Really?! Nobody's read this one yet?

Written in the early 1960's, story takes place in the mid-1950's,  book recently re-released. Movie starring Kate Winslett and Leonardo DiCaprio set to hit theaters early 2009 (I think).

Highly recommended!

I have not read it yet but a friend of mine did and she said she thought it was pretty long and boring--not a lot going on.

I couldn't get into this book AT ALL! It was pretty boring. I never even read past the first few chapters, and I am one to read a book in a few days.

I enjoyed the movie.

To appreciate the book or the film you need to know a little bit about the 1950s and society's expectations during that "Golden era."

I felt both sympathy and disgust for the characters. I wanted to shake them, tell them to snap out of it, and get on with living their authentic lives for crikey's sake.

I have the book started but have hit a slow point in the middle. I am having a hard time getting through it just because I am not interested in it at this point. Does the book pick up towards the second half at all?

Ok, so i watched this movie before reading the book...I had heard mixed reviews about the movie, but actually enjoyed (though a little depressing) and I thought the acting was good. So I thought i'd give the book a try...I couldnt make it past the first two chapters...too slow!! Maybe if i had read it first instead of seeing the movie...??
