Rick's books are the best for Europe - this is a little old, but he has updates on his website. I just used this book in Austria and Germany and he had many great suggestions for out of the way restaurants.

His best advice (in all of his books) is to "learn a few words of the language of the country you are visiting" - showing an effort takes away the "ugly American" reputation and you'd be surprised how much Europeans appreciate the gesture. Most Europeans speak English - but once you have made the effort to speak "their" language, they respect you much more - and then speak English!
