This is a wonderful trilogy full of suspense, drama, comedy, tragedy, evocative imagery, and delightfully imaginative fantasy. The stories follow the journey of Morgan to whom the land-rule of the island of Hed passes prematurely when his parents drown at sea. Suddenly he becomes one with his homeland, his mind and senses bound to every living thing on the island.

If he hadn't loved harping and riddlery, he might have stayed at home and been safe. But Morgan was born with three stars on his forehead, and no one in the High One's realm knows why. So Morgan has to solve the riddles that can reveal who and what he really is: Why are there a silent harp and a sword that match the stars on his brow? Who are the Earth Master's children and what destroyed them? Where is the High One and why isn't he at home in Erlenstar Mountain?

In solving these riddles, Morgan comes to the realization that everything he loves about his homeland and all the places and people he meets on this quest are in danger of being destroyed. Now he has to solve the final riddle - how can he prevent that from happening?

I've loved this trilogy since I first read it in the 1980s. Here are all three books - The Riddle Master of Hed, Heir of Sea and Fire, and Harpist in the Wind in one volume.
