The subject matter is interesting enough. The writing style is clear and gripping in parts. I guess my middle-of-the-road rating is due to the author really making us dislike her while describing the situation at Virginia Tech and the shootings on campus. What happened is tragic and she recognizes that - however she seems to equate her own decisions and the reaction of administration to those choices as 'part of the picture.' Instead, more info about the pathology of the shooter would have been a better use of space. Their is considerable personal opinion presented as fact and a large amount of repetition. Nonetheless her access and her devotion to her job make what she's writing about clear.
