Anyone have a green way to take care of ring around the collar? This family's got it bad, but only the nasty chemical stain removers seem to do anything about it. I'm looking for greener options. Thanks! |

I use plain old bar soap, whatever is in my shower or by my sink. I wet the collar, rub on some soap, and then rub one part of the collar against the other. The secret is a little elbow grease. Works for cuffs, too. |

I've found that filling up a bucket with vinegar, dumping the shirts in, and letting them soak for a day or two takes care of the problem. Also works for those deoderant crusties under the arms! |

here's a homemade recipe I had - I haven't tried it though, so I don't know how well it works. Recipe: stain remover spray
1/3 cup tap water Mix ingredients into a clean spray bottle, shake to mix and use as needed to pre-treat stains on clothing (particularly good on collar and underarm stains). |

I...think I'll pass on amonia. I lose track of what things it's not supposed to mix with and would rather not risk it. I'll try the bar soap. I do refuse to hand wash my clothes before I machine wash them, but I'll see how much work it is--had to rub the stain remover in anyway. I did tell my SO he has a choice--deal with darkened bottom of socks or quit going sock-footed on the floors all the time. I'm not stain removering, bleaching, or scrubbing the bottoms of his socks! The ring around the collar is more of an issue since it's up on a visible part of the clothing. Hopefully a little extra soap will fix the collars. |
