By the author of the widely acclaimed 'Sophie's World.' Petter is a gifted storyteller with a active imagination who makes his fortune by secretly selling plot ideas to authors who 'can write' but lack original ideas, or suffer from writer's block. Each author believes he is the only one reduced to buying ideas, and Petter is careful to sell each idea only once, and to maintain his confidential relationships. His personal life has been a series of uncommitted relationships, including the one that was the 'love of his life' and produced his only child. He hasn't seen her in many years as he agreed to take no part in her upbringing. But now, in late mid-life, he must go into hiding when he finds that he may be in physical danger from people who feel betrayed by rumors of his carefully concealed relationships. He knows people may be looking for him, but nevertheless is drawn into a friendship with a young woman he meets in a restaurant. The theme of finding a long lost child runs throughout this magical novel, told in Petter's own voice.
A great read.
