Abridged Edition; Read by Campbell ScottThis audio was a little different than most -- the author gives you some room to draw your own conclusions. Take the main character for instance; FBI agent Mark Beamon, is he a "good guy" because it says so on the back of the case? How about the guy he is tracking down? This man's solution to today's drug problem is to poison a huge amount of cocain and heroin at the source. Does that make him "bad"? The book gives you the impression that the public at large support his efforts...good or bad??? This book shows the other side of his crusade; innocents trying a drug for the first time and dying, recreational users, politician's children also dying, and the heightening movement to stop the murders. Is out drug policy failing miserably? Are we wasting our tax money and time while trying to stop the proliferation of drugs, when we could put the money to work in other areas? What can we, as a country, do about the drug trade? These questions and others are brought forward in this audio ... like I said, it's a little different angle on an old question. I really liked this book, and I liked the author's viewpoint!
A political thriller by a new author.
This is one of my husbands newest favorite authors.
VERY FAST PACED AND A GREAT BOOK FOR A FIRST TIME WRITER!
Tom Clancy fans, meet a new player in the techno-thriller genre. "Rising Phoenix" is a novel of staggering proportions and chilling possibilities. A former DEA agent has a macabre plot to combat the drug problem - contaminate the drug supplies with an untraceable poison. His ex-partner is recruited to stop this twisted vengeance. A Columbian drug cartel leader, a President considered soft on crime and a Mafia chieftain all want this outbreak stopped for different reasons. Needs to be read in one sitting!
Very interesting "what if" scenario.
A political thriller involving a shadowy, right wing group flooding America's emergency rooms with dead and dying. Special Agent Mark Beamon, a maverick openiy disdainful of FBI rules is put in charge of the case, hopefully by his adversaires to fail. But Beamon realizes there is a eerily familiarity about his adversary, someone his encountered before, but not a criminal.......
I enjoyed this book very much and that made me want to seek out other Mills' books. I liked Storming Heaven even more.
Good Espionage book. National Bestseller.
Great thriller, with a unique, if not twisted premise. Well worht reading.
Fairly good for a first novel. I'll probably look for his second novel.
Special agent Mark Beamon is a maverrick. His open disdain for the FBI's rules- and directors- has exiled him to a no-profile post in the boondocks.
But when a shadowy right-wing group starts fuooding America's emergency rooms with dead and dying, Beamon is summoned back to Washington. teamed with an icily efficient female field agent, he is given the thankless task of stopping the slaughter even though millions of Americans secretly approve of it.
A very exciting page turner. Well written and an interesting plot and outcome. I loved it!
FROM THE PUBLISHER
A deadly plague strikes America's cities. Hospital ERs are jammed, chaos reigns in the streets, men and woman are dropping like flies. Someone has taken the war on drugs into their own hands and poisoned the narcotics supply. And most chilling of all: the majority of Americans approve! Summoned back to Washington by the director who exiled him, maverick FBI agent Mark Beamon is given the thankless task of discovering who's behind the full-page ads that have suddenly appeared in newspapers across the country, giving addicts a simple choice:. Quit or die. Teamed with a female field agent as icily analytical as he is intuitive, Beamon begins a desperate "all-points" search, racing against the drug cartels, the Cosa Nostra, and the random violence on the streets, as the poisoned drugs take their grim toll.
this is a new author for me and i will read his works again.
this very well done thriller was very different. the plot is short si ther is an organization who wants to stop all illegal drug usage inthe US to stop. how they did it and the results are shocking!!! a good read
This is one of the best thrillers I have read. I hated when I had to put it down to go to work.
Will try more by Mills and I'd give a higher rating but it was just too long and drawn out, I got past the half mark then realized that it wasn't going anywhere but the plot just being repeated over and over so from that point did some skipping and skimming
A good read. I definitely will read another book by Kyle Mills.
A political thriller of the best kind!
Would you believe the bad guys are the heroes here. A group has targeted drug users, they are poisoning the drugs they take and thousands are dieing. Rooting for the bad guys here.
