Montana Brown is mourning her parents divorce and returns to Mule Hollow to see Lacy and Clint, and to decide what she wants to do with her life. In her mid-20s, she has a degree in accounting but secretly harbors dreams of being a rodeo champion (she is an excellent barrel racer). She then meets Luke Holden, whos easy on the eyes and very friendly. He asks her out, but is rebuffed. Hes gun-shy about marriage as well, since he comes from a dysfunctional family himself.

Luke states emphatically that dates with him come with no strings attached; hes Mr. Right Now, not Mr. Right. I loved his easygoing attitude and friendliness. He sees Montanas distress at the dissolution of her parents marriage and urges her to open up. Meanwhile, the Mule Hollow matchmakers are planning a series of rodeos to put their little town on the map. At one point, though, one of the Mule Hollow matchmakers is telling rake Luke Holden to smooth things over with Erica, a woman whom hes dated twice and who has just thrown a drink at him. Excuse me? Erica is the one you should be talking to: she lied about her intentions to him, and she threw a drink at him. How is this mess his fault?

Then the women talk about Luke not taking his life seriously. Why should he? Hes young and ambitious. He wants to build and develop a working ranch, which is not an easy feat. Why does he need to get married to accomplish that goal? Theres a scripture in the Song of Solomon (one of the most beautiful love stories ever) in which a woman states that she does not want her friends interfering in her life.

The matchmakers all mean well; theyre all happily married themselves, but theyre often annoying and overbearing. The warm, friendly way that Montana and Luke get together make this book worth searching for.
