Anyone know of historicals in maybe Germany, Switzerland (non-Viking-were they Swiss?), Italy, France?  I've come across a couple that take place in Russia and even one in Iceland.  I'm really surprised there aren't more that take place in Italy which is supposed to be such a romantic place.  I think I read one  by Johanna Lindsay where the hero was half-Italian/Half Brittish and he kidnaps an English woman.  I can see why there aren't many that take place in France because really-how romantic could the French Revelution have been?  But maybe something in Paris 40-50yrs after that time frame?  I guess I'm getting kind of bored with Brittish Lords and Ladies.

Laura Kinsale's "Shadowheart" takes place in Italy.

I'm sure I know of some others, but I'm not thinking of them right now....

I have an old, old one that is set in Russia.  It's the basement.  I might try to brave that hellhole and see what it is.  It was pretty good (obviously, as I've kept it all these years).

ETA:  I found it, and boy, is it an oldie!  It's a Masquerade Historical #24 (price--$1.50!), entitled Flight from the Eagle by Dinah Dean.  Originally published in 1974, this version was published in 1979.

It took me a few minutes, but I remember the first two books in the Wind Dancer series by Iris Johansen were set in Italy and France ( the third is set in present day France).  I just posted these yesterday.  They been on my keeper shelf for years. If your interested they're 3 for1.

I have a book on my reminder list set in Australia: Night in Eden. Haven't read it but it got an A from the reviewer in the All About Romance site.
