What an amazing writer. He grabs you and takes you back in time, between World War I and II. The rising tensions against Jews in Germany, the mental hospitals, and the hunger and famine facing people all over Europe. And he weaves into the story serial killing, amazing substance, social analysis and development of characters. Not your typical hero.

Is a long, heavy on detail, yet Quality and Interesting Read.

The Story evokes perception of Imagery aka Sight, Sound, Touch, and Smell.

Historical Aspects were Interesting (Set right after the German Revolution, and after the End of World War 1).

Lastly, not a Light and actually a somewhat depressing or unhappy atmosphere.

Finally, many of the characters give you reason to dislike them due to their multiple acts of immorality.
