Ruby the duck is slow to learn everything. Even her egg hatched later than her sisters. Her parents worry about her. They wonder with each new growth step if she'll ever be able to do the activity. Dad reassures mom that in her time she will learn...and she does.

This was a book in our 1st grade curriculum. I would tell my students not to believe it - the state legislature and the school board expected them to be fluent readers and efficient test-takers immediately!
