Hilariously funny book of the great S.J. Perelman's writings dating from approx 1930 to 1958. If you like P.G. Wodehouse and Woody Allen, you will love S.J.
Some of his better lines: "I've got Bright's disease and he has mine." "It takes two to tango, but only one to squirm."
His characters: Whitelipped & Trembling, brokers; Moe Juste, the French grammarian; Chalky Aftertaste and His Musical Poltroons, a ragtime band.
His titles: "The Hand that Cradles the Rock" and "Caution -- Soft Prose Ahead"
From the afterword: "President Carter noted that 'Like Mark Twain, George Ade, Ring Lardner and James Thurber, S.J. Perelman madea permanent contribution not only to American humor but to American literature as well.'"
