My home computer is on the fritz, and has been for awhile, so I've been doing all my PBS transactions on this fancy-pants phone. It works pretty well for most things, and up to now has been fine on PBS too. When the site changed the way we receive books it still worked fine until . . I got an RWAP. I pulled up my account and thought I marked RWAP, in fact I'm 99% sure that box was marked. Underneath (also marked, which may be what I did wrong) it said "books marked received in good condition will be added to TBR, or something to that effect. I thought that would be ok, since it was not marked "received in good condition." So, I hit submit, and it went to "thanks forsaking this book received. . . " So I checked my transaction archive and, sure enough, green checkmark. So my question is, is there anything I can do at this point? Anything I should do? I'm not super worried about the credit, although it's annoying that I won't be able to repost it. But I always see on the boards that it's very important to mark RWAPs as such. Next time, well hopefully there is no next time, but I'll receive it from work, because my fancy-pants isn't always what it's cracked up to be:) Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You might be able to contact Paperbackswap about this. I'm not sure whether they're likely to change anything, but I'm not saying it's unlikely either, really a bit of a toss up imo. If what concerns you most is making sure the transaction details include mention that the book was, in fact, unpostable, they might be able to make a note to that effect, although marking it received as you did might be the final word on the matter.

Since you'll likely be using your phone, I'll include a link to the Feedback Page for convenience's sake. Once on the Contact Us page, use the gray Send Us Feedback button to reach the page from which your message will be sent; remember to include the name of the book in the line indicated:   Contact Us

For what it's worth, I functioned for about 7 months with my smartphone as my only means of accessing the internet, and I totally feel your pain. I did my best to avoid swapping during that period, just because I found it profoundly difficult to navigate the site through my phone. I don't blame PBS, mind you, as my phone is as cutting edge as a rusted spoon lol. It seems as though you've already found a way around this problem in the future, so if nothing else you've at least gained a significant dose of empathy ;)

In general, PBS will not go back and change the status of a transaction. Once you mark it received, it is received.

However, if you have a suggestion as to improving the formatting, or if you think there was a glitch in the screen which applied the status incorrectly, you should report those issues, so that they can test and improve the screens. If you found it confusing, that is also worth mentioning.

I like what they have done, but when I used the screen for the first time to report a problem on a multi-book transaction, I noticed that things did not align properly, which caused some confusion as to which book I was marking in a certain way. I had to look at it for a while until I was sure of what I was doing, since some of the buttons and checks did not align in a way which is immediately understandable. (and I work for a software company, so usability of web forms is something that I am very aware of, in general).

If they start getting a lot of reports about people mistakenly applying buttons to transactions because the interface is confusing, for example, they can figure out how to improve it.

Sara, I think you hit the nail on the head. I, too, suspect it to be a matter of alignment. I've noticed most sites that employ checkboxes are difficult to manage from a phone, as it's difficult to discern which checkbox is which. Since the upgrade to the receipt system here now involves "checkcircles", it would stand to reason that a similar difficulty might arise. The solution would lie in enhancing the mobile site (www.paperbackswap.com/mobile/index.php), which at present does not allow for management of one's account.

There are iPhone and Android apps, which might be more useful than the basic mobile site; however, as a Blackberry user, I know virtually nothing about them. Marion, if your phone falls under those two categories, you might benefit from use of the app as opposed to accessing the site through your phone's browser. If you're using a Blackberry, though, you should at least be able to change from column view to page view, which would give you a more accurate view of the page. That way you won't be entirely dependent on your work computer, preferable though it may be.

PBS is not really SmartPhone friendly. When I use my BB to access the site and take care of transactions I have to be extra careful that FFS (Fat Finger Syndrome) doesn't mess things up.

I think feedback about how the site works on mobiles will help TPTB. They probably will not change that RWAP. But the feedback about mobile layout would be helpful.

Even if it was a case of fat finger syndrome, sending in Feedback would be a good idea so that the site knows that the new format may be an issue for people using their phones for access. The new format is streamlined, but it is very small and could be a problem for phones.

The Team can't do anything about the incorrectly marked transaction, but you can go to your Transaction Archive and PM the sender and let them know that there was an error when you were marking it received and it was meant to be marked received with a problem. They may say to bad, they aren't going to do anything since you didn't mark it RWAP and you won't have much recourse, but most people are good people and if the they know the proplem you say is an issue was there, they'll make it right.

Thanks, everyone, for your responses!  It may very well have been FFS (love that).  I will definately contact TPTB regarding the usability of the site through phones.  I'll also link the transaction, not that I want to get anyone in trouble, but if the member has a history of RWAPs they may want to know, and if not it shouldn't affect him/her, from my understanding.

I haven't decided if I want to contact the member.  I'm not so hot at confrontations even over the internet so I may just let it go.  I'll sleep on it.

James, I didn't realize Iphone has an app for PBS, but I'll definately check it out.  If that's not any easier it's not that big of a deal to trade from work, I stay late most every day anyway.

Thanks again everyone,

Marion
