This book seemed skimpy on information. Having lived through this era, I thought there would be more information about Hussein's family and family life. Hussein started out in the rural countryside of Iraq. It was also the scene of his apprehension after he was being sought for genocide and other crimes against Iraq.

I thought the book captured Hussein's flipflop personality, depending on what he wanted. He could be charming, or brutal. As he was gathering power, Hussein was ruthless and deadly. However, when he nationalized oil production, he did give the citizens better education opportunities and more extensive health care. However, on the other hand, Hussein bankrupted his country with his dreams of war and conquest.
