Sunday, October 23, 1983. At 4:30 in the morning Mag came up from her sleep with her heart thumping and sweat pouring from her, the way she'd awoken years ago when her son Izzy was out delivering newspapers and she found him two blocks away lying on the street with a broken ankle. She sat up in bed, wide awake, sick to her stomach. She hated her motherly premonitions. She learned that the airport in Beirut has been bombed by the Lebonese terrorists. Among the 1600 man peacekeeping force stationed there is one of her seven sons. Over the course of the next 3 days, as they wait for further news of their son's fate, the family comes together in a vigil of patience and love and makes peace with their common past. Their turmoil is both comic and frightening, and Mag, standing strong as the family's core, shoulders the greatest burden of grief and guilt.
