Wonderful book full of color (and some sepia) pictures of churches/shrines around Samarkand. Makes me want to go there. Put out in the last year (conceptually, to me, at least) that Russia dominated Uzbekistan, therefore just before the place got discovered by Western Tourists, it gives me the thrill of discovered something hidden for a long time, which is true, if you read this book, history ended about in 1400 AD here.
