I was just wondering about her books.  She's swapped in the game forum a lot; but I've never read her.

Is she romance? CF? Women's Fiction?   What book do you like best by her?

TIA~

Irene

Definitely a great writer.  Not all of her books are 5 stars, but Chili Queen, Persian Pickle Club, New Mercies and Tallgrass are really fine novels.  Whiter Than Snow was only a 3 star book for me, and I have Alices's Tulips and The Diary of Mattie set aside for this winter.  A woman's writer but not smaltzy or love stories.  I would say that many of her books are even a little gritty in parts.   Her characters are very well drawn and that is my favorite thing about her books.

New Mercies was definitely my favourite with Tallgrass a close second, although I have enjoyed all of her books and she is always on my "Must Read" list when she has a new book.

I've only read two of her books.  I loved Persian Pickle Club (historical fiction and mystery).  Then I read Buster Midnight's Cafe.  I didn't finish it.  It was too disjointed for me.

Persian Pickle Club was good..Diary of Mattie spencer wa good but a bit sad but predictable for the time it was written. chili queen was a tad weird. not sure how I'd catergorize them - about women and some sad stuff some happy stuff..I gues I'd just say fiction with a slant towards women. I enjoyed persian pickel club, diary of mattie spencer, and alice's tulips - good writing.

My favorite of all her books is THE PERSIAN PICKLE CLUB.
