"The Sara Chronicles, The Beginning, Book 1" by L Hughes is well written and immediately captures the attention of the reader. In the classic style of a mistreated youngster Sara is taking care of herself despite her disfunctional family situation. Similar to "James and the Giant Peach" or "Harry Potter" Sara soon discovers that she has been placed with the wrong family and is saved at just the right moment.
Thrust into a new world with facinating guides, powers and evil, Sara soon learns she is part of a trio of young people who must save the town from evil. She follows the guides' instructions and finds the other children who also have special powers when used together for good are able to conquer, at least for a bit, the evil that is taking over.
Book 1 sets the stage for the remaining books in the series. Designed for young adults, but not a bad read for others as well.
