Georgie Mundy has her own New Age Cooking show. Recently, there have been incidents of sabotage, spurring the TV station to hire private eye Ethan Darling. Georgie has secrets to protect and has a hard time trusting people. Ethan has his own dark past but the two are thrown together and can't resist each other. A sequel of sorts to Stiling's "Arousing Suspicions" but you don't need to read that book to enjoy this one.

The first I've read by this author, so...a little bit disappointed with this one esp. since I bought it (not full price though, thankfully)

We get a couple different points of view, which is nice, and I love LOVE that musicians I've not only heard of, but listen to as well are mentioned! Also, surprisingly there were funny bits --I've read quite a few books that were supposed to be funny, but I didn't think they were at all, s this was a surprise!

Now for the not so good stuff...

What the summary doesn't mention is that the h (heroine) is a bit on the new age side (I almost stopped reading after finding that out), so she's all about feng-shui......she's not bad, she had a bad childhood (though we could have used more details from it, instead we get a glossed over version) so she's got trust issues, but she's resilient.

For the first half of the book the H (Hero) was a bit of a waffler...He kept switching b/w wanting the heroine and not wanting her...and knowing he shouldn't want her because they could never work...He's a supposedly tortured soul, (and what happens to make him that way is pretty bad but could have been describes so much better) but I didn't really pick up on that...really he came off as a bit innocuous...He was a bit better by the end, but really I was just so happy it was over, that anyone would have looked good.

The most annoying part though was that the writing was a bit on the choppy side....For example sex scenes seemed to be thrown in when I least expected them (esp in the beginning!) Then, a scene would be set up, something would happen, then the next chapter would skip to a new scene, without ending the last one (grrr)...Also each chapter begins with an excerpt from the h's cookbook, but they're totally useless! not funny, and not terribly cute either. To be honest, after the first couple chapters I just skipped them!

Oh and let's not forget the melodrama...There were scenes that were just so trite, I literally had to stop reading...
And for the record, not very much time is actually spent on the cooking show.

There's a secondary story as well, but there's even less detail with that one(as it should be) but some of it was just weak, while the other bits of it didn't really make sense.

So I realize the bad stuff seems to outweigh the good, but as long as you don't keep your expectations too high, and realize what you're going into and that it's supposed to be a "light" read, the book should be okay.
