I liked how Orczy wrapped up the book letting Marguerite achieve some redemption for her earlier mistake with St. Cyr. This was a fun read, not too deep but memorable for its innovative (at the time) story telling, adventurous plot, and engaging characters. Percy, Marguerite, and Chauvelin are well drawn characters with many attributes, flaws, and heroic qualities.

Has anyone else read some of the follow up stories?

I didn't know that there were follow up stories.  Hum....something to look for at my library I guess.  I liked the end too.  I ended up staying up until 10:30 pm to finish becasue I couldn't put it down.  Marguerite did redeem herself at the end and I just fell in love with Percy.  I loved how he had disguised himself in order to see it through to the bitter end.  Very well done!

Looking at the question I had posed earlier, i can see Clive Owen as the star of SP in a film version.

I know- I loved the end so much!  That and the scene between Percy and Marguerite after the ball were my favorite parts.  I like that Marguerite was a proactive heroine, she didn't just sit around and hope for the best, and she didn't just send one of Percy's men to do the work for her, she was determined to save him herself.

Here is the list of Scarlet Pimpernel novels

The Scarlet Pimpernel (play 1903, novel 1905)

 Collections of short stories

Omnibus editions

This story intrigued me enough that I'm going to look for some of these at the library next week.

Just a general question for everyone.

Did you have a favorite character in the novel?
