trying again, my post got dumped while I was still typing----argghhhhhh.

I'm kind of confused about the school donation program. When they did the credit collection in NOV, I was at my daughter's wedding in DC and having emergency back surgery so my acct was on hold and I missed it.

1)  Why do they only collect credits once a year for a short period and not all year long?

2)  When I searched details on the 3 schools under "adopt a school", all 3 had reached their goals of 500 or more with just one person donating credits.  How can that be if we're only allowed to accumulate 50 credits?

You can accumulate as many credits as you want. For example, I have 90 right now.

You can only transfer 50 per month to other members.

I am not sure why they do the program only once a year ... but they do it around the holidays when people are in a charitable mood.

I really like to donate to the schools, but I think I might get tired of hearing about it, if it was constant.

You would get the best answer through Feedback via Contact Us in the lower right, here you are only going to get guesses from other members.

Whenever they open the donations, they fill up quickly. They can't really slow down the donations to make the donation period last longer, when a school fills, it fills. If that takes a week, that's all it takes. There are a lot of members with excess credits and a lot of members that enjoy the school donation programs, I don't see them slowing down anytime soon and think they will continue to be quickly filled as soon as they open.

I didn't think they all happened at the same time of the year. It seems like they open a few schools here and there, but I haven't really noted what months they are. It costs the site money to do them, so they do them as often as they have schools and funds available.

When I looked at "adopt a school" Danny, the top trader was listed on 2 of them. He's got over 8000 trades under his belt. He's got to find something to do with all those credits he's earned.  There is no limit to the number of credits you can accumulate, only how many you can give to other members in a calendar month.

The school donation program has been in the Fall, right before Thanksgiving, for several years.

If I recall, the Military donation (which last year was giving children's books to Active military members to read on a DVD to their children) was in the Spring.

Story Time through United Through Reading

There out of season donations, usually in memorial for a member we have lost.

The military donation program is only open once a year, and it was a very short window last spring.  Filled very quickly.

I didn't realize the school program was limited also, I though it was available a few times during the year.  I could easily be mistaken tho.  I received notification that a school in my state was in the program last fall, but 48 hours later when I popped in all their needs had been filled....so I donated to another school.

It is only in the Fall. They start with about 10 schools, and add more as those fill up. So the program lasts for several weeks, as schools fill up and are replaced. The military program was just one program and filled very quickly. (We are generous book lovers.)

We have a number of members who are active in Operation Paperback, a group that sends books to troops. But this is individual members, not the group.

There are Other similar programs one can donate to. I've selected Books For Keeps. Unfortuantely, they're apparently not allowed to be members here, so I just collect the books they're looking for as best I can, and then mail off a box at a time. It comes out to about one box a quarter.

It's a great program, and I highly recommend it:  BooksForKeeps.org.

PBS does not accept any group as members. But members can select an alternative address for the book to be shipped to.

I have actually contacted TPTB about the school donation program in the past.  I was told it costs them to do it, and they do it as often as they can.

It looks like it takes a great deal of work to organize.
