Well, if they ever take recess out of our daily schedule, I am going to throw a fit.  The kids really need that time to let things marinate in their heads, to run around, to talk to other kids, and to just relax.

We also have mandatory daily PE.

Due to the increased focus on academics, school districts seem to think that recess, PE, art, health, etc. are expendable.  Completely false.  There are some teachers I know that spend all day teaching only math and language arts since those are the tested subjects.  Their kids become academically anemic and learn to loathe both subjects.  Can you imagine not learning about anything but language arts and math?  It makes me sad that some kids don't get the chance to learn about other subjects (which can totally include reading and math BTW).

When I was in school, we had 2 recess breaks.  I wish the kids now got 2 recesses instead of 1.
