Anna Taggert is a young teacher starting her first teaching job at a Manhattan private school with visions of making a difference in her students' lives. It isn't long before she has her eyes opened to the reality of her students' priviledged upbringing, where no one does their own work, and every student has their own highly-paid tutor.

Anna soon joins the ranks of the private tutors herself, enticed by the huge sums of money and the luxuries such money can buy. Now she has a new best friend, a high-end apartment, status handbags, blond highlights, and a wardrobe to rival any wealthy Manhattan socalite. But has she sold herself out, abandonded not only her old self, but her morals as well?

I really enjoyed this novel. I did not find the brand name-dropping to be annoying at all - it wasn't any different than your average chick lit novel. This was a very readable story, and a fast read. It was fun to read about Anna's experiences with her tutoring students, even if it was hard to believe they were only 7th and 8th graders for the most part.

Overall, an entertaining story that I'd recommend to anyone who enjoys a bit of chick lit now and then.

p.s. I'm not sure why this is listed as a Young Adult novel, as it is most definitely an adult novel, with adult themes and language.

A quick read chic lit book that pans the first year of a new teacher with a degree from Columbia University. She initially takes the job because of her love of teaching but becomes enthralled with the idea of shopping, living in a posh apartment, and dressing even better than her snob moms. How does she do all this on a teacher's salary in a private school.....read on as the author takes you on a fictional journey in a private school where the parents dictate how much homework their precious children should be given.

Schooled is the story of a young, Ivy-league educated teacher navigating the waters of teaching at an elite, Manhattan prep school. She is idealistic and wants to mold young minds as she teaches 7th grade English. She quickly learns that her well-heeled, parent-enabled children of privilege are used to cheating their way through life, and Middle School, by being tutored daily after school. These tutors, also Ivy-league educated, actually do the homework and write all the papers for their charges. Anna Taggart gets sucked into the life of teacher by day, tutor by night, as she covets the name brand purses, and fancy Park Avenue addresses of her students. She gets tangled into the rarefied world of the super rich and unaccountable. This was a well written, accurate portrayal of this elite setting.

Nanny Diaries meets Devil Wears Prada meets Gossip Girl.

This was an easy read. At times funny and a bit sassy. The reason I rated it a bit lower is because I had a hard time personally relating to the main character. She is a confusion of greediness mixed with a heart to teach (which I guess is the whole premis for the book,eh). It's one of those cases where the moral of the story is wrapped up in the last two chapters and the whole rest of it I sorta disliked her! A bit "Clueless" meets "Nanny Diaries" meets "Shopaholic".
