Wow... such a well written story that had me wanting to read it constantly. A great story of a different type of family dynamic having to deal with mental illness.

Despite the apparent praise for this novel, I found A Seahorse Year an odd book to warm to. It traces the ripple effects of a young man's schizophrenia on his family members' other relationships. The author's prose and writing style is smooth and conversational and easy to read, but ultimately I could not discern any message here beyond 'major stress in life causes consequences in relationships'---very disappointing.
