I thought I saw once where you can. Maybe I was seeing things? My SIL just joined and she's already in bed. I wanted to add her as a buddy.

You can look under Member Directory  under Community.  but I think only people who have set up profiles show up there.  I could be wrong though.

Ahhh Thank you! I knew I had seen it before, just couldn't remember where and I couldn't find it again. Goes to show I can't find my keys when their in my pocket!

Thanks! I'm slowly learning things! As little as I know I'm helping my SIL.

My husband's not happy that I have a new addiction! LOL It's so bad I have decided that I now must go to thrift stores and the flea market looking for books! But like I told him it could be worse, I could just go out and buy all these books then our pockets would really feel it.

Side note: I just started reading a few months ago, I think April it was. So I'm just getting my book collection going. I hadn't pick up a book since I was forced to in high school!

You can look up people by their names, but that often won't get you to the right person, for example there are 144 Sherry's in the membership directlory :)

And as was said, only if they have a nickname will they be listed in the membership directory. I remember way back several years ago, the directory said we had about 20,000 members, and someone from PBS said the actual membership at that time was just over 30,000. So, if that continues to hold true, the current Pulse of PBS page says: Public Profiles: 90,941, that would mean we are very probably well over 100,000 members today.

You do need to have a person's nickname to find them in the membership directory, unless they have an absolute totally unique first name, but there's no way you can guarantee that no one else in the world shares their first name, so you really need their nickname. And if they haven't registered one, then you will have to figure out another way to contact them (like by phone if you know them personally).
