I am in search of a historical romance book that I read in the early 90's.  I think it was published by Zebra.  Itwas a pirate story of some type taking place in one of southen states.  All I can remember about it is that the herione was married to a man who was a pirate, maybe at night?, and I think he was also a plantation owner.  But she didn't know that he was a pirate, and he came to her as the pirate and ravished her and she fell in love with his pirate side, not knowing that he was her husband.

Does this make sense?  Any way, if anyone can think of any books with a plot like this, please share!  I wish I could remember that name of the book, it was one of my favorites and I lost it when I moved out of my parents home.  It was published in the late 80's or early 90's.

Thanks for any help you can give!!!!!

Christine Dorsey did some pirate'y/buccaneer stories and I think some of her books are set in the South. She's the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

I love books like this, but a pirate one doesn't sound familiar. The only book in my mind that comes close to this is Satin Fires. He's a tabacco planter in America, and she's from England. Her brother arranges their marriage, but she finds that he's turned into a "fop". Then she meets his alter ego as The Fox but doesn't know it's him. At least not right away.

I know that's not the book, but thought I would put it here anyway. Hope someone figures out the pirate one. I'd be interested in reading that one!

This sounds like My Lady Vixen by Connie Mason.  Adam was known as “The Fox” when he was a pirate, he also wore a fox mask. So Alexa didn’t know that it was Adam. When she did find out, she became a pirate of her own ship.

My Lady Vixen by Connie Mason

THE LADY

Possessed of an innocent, ethereal beauty, Alexa Ashley knew nothing of the burning hatred Adam Foxworth felt for her family. Abducted by his men, held prisoner aboard a notorious privateering ship, she succumbed to Adam's masterful seduction - only to learn she had been nothing but a pawn in his game of revenge...

THE VIXEN

Driven by despair, Alexa made a new name for herself as the boldly seductive mistress of a rival ship, and dared to challenge her lover at his own game...Stroke by stroke, kiss by kiss, she would teach Adam just how sweet revenge could be...
