I'm looking for easy reading books in Spanish or English/ Spanish combo to read to my kids. Sort of a gentle intro to the language.... Any ideas? |

I am currently an elementary Spanish teacher in a public school. Some of my favorite "intro" books are: 1. Say Hola to Spanish (and the others in this series) 2. Perro grande... Perro pequeño / Big Dog... Little Dog 3. Go Dog Go, (Corre, perro, corre) (It's very easy and most kids have memorized the English version) 4. ¿El Canguro Tiene Mamá? (Does a Kangaroo Have a Mother Too?, Spanish Language Edition) 5. Perros! Perros!/Dogs! Dogs!: A Story in English and Spanish (you can tell I am a dog lover) 6. The Day It Snowed Tortillas / El Dia Que Nevaron Tortillas, Folktales told in Spanish and English

The Harry Potter books are pretty easy to find in Spanish. Border's (don't know if there's a Border's near you), in their youth section, has a foreign-language subsection. |

Long time ago, I used to use Lois Lenski's books: Papa Small/Papa Pequeno, and Cowboy Small/Vaquero Pequeno, but I suppose they're out of print by now. They worked very well, whether to learn English, or to learn Spanish. |
