The author of this book took a different approach to telling a time travel story. Rather than using flashbacks or flashforwards, each chapter is set in a different time. This means that the story itself has a beginning and an end, but you can start the book anywhere and read the chapters in any order because the book's beginning is not the story's beginning. This could be a disjointed read, but for the most part it flows very well.
The back cover of the book describes the story thusly:
"In many cases a man's life can be summed up by the way he dies. In the case of Christofer Nost, that would be ... confusing. Not only in the how, but the why.
With no memory of his past life, Christofer must unravel the mysteries surrounding his own death as time travelers from a span of nine centuries track him to finish the job."
