This was a great book. I really like this series by Mary Reeves Bell.
Thirteen-year-old Con hasn't lived very long in Vienna, Austira, but he already knows one thing for sure: it's boorrrring! His new school isn't much funeither, and it's hard getting used to a new stepdad when he never even new his real father.
But when the local baker tells him that Vienna has always been a center of international espionage, Con begins to look at the old city in a new way. With his Jewish friend Hannah, Con decides to make some excitement-searching for spies. Who knows what they might find?
The real mystery begins when Con's former landlord, Herr Donner, gives him a curious object called a mezuzah. What is it? Why did Herr Donner have it? And why will he now do anything to get it back?
As events begin to unfold and imagined dangers become very real, Con finds himself face-to-face with the lingering horror of the Holocaust,a chocking discovery, and an adventure beyond his wildest dreams.
