Appeal of Romance Novels? Why do you read them?

it kinda makes my blood boil... I know it wasn't stated outright, but I totally get the feeling the OP was looking down on the genre as a whole... ergh!

People who don't read REAL romance will never "get it" so I just ignore them.

I was annoyed by the underlying tone too.  To give the OP credit there wasn't anything wrong with the post.  But I just posted my reply because after reading through it I realized it had become kind of an ode to the genre which I thought was good.

I was actually surprised that more people weren't slamming our genre. I thought for sure it would have had a few rude comments. So far it doesn't.

Obviously the person that posted that has either never read a romance novel or just does not like them.

I don't get the appeal of a lot of genres of books but I don't go out questioning why other people want to read them.  Everyone's got their own interests.
