Hi! My name is Kristen. I find myself to be a pretty nice young lady, (when warranted) and I get along with MOST people, unless of course they speak or comment about my height, which just so happens to humiliate me enough to the point of humbleness... (smile) I like to play with other people's kids, until they act up or ask for my last Dorito, of course... Or unless it's one of my three EXTREMELY HANDSOME nephews that can ask me for BOTH of my lungs at the SAME time because I DESPERATELY love them AND surprisingly enough they know how to share with one another, which is shocking, to say that they all come from different mothers, LITERALLY. Does this make me selfish??

So I got into a car accident a little over a month ago and the lady that hit me totaled my car. Unfortunately and fortunately, I had to borrow my mother's car for about 2 weeks. (Trust me when I say that I hated to ask!!!) So for my birthday (April 6th) I got a new car... And then my mom does the UNTHINKABLE... She asks, rather STRONGLY SUGGESTED, that I allow her to take my car OUT OF STATE to our home town New Orleans, La! Home of the BIGGEST potholes KNOWN TO MAN! Potholes that might as well be 'black holes,' because if your kid EVER steps into one accidentally, I GUARANTEE that you will NEVER see them again!! And any kind of way she dings up the car I ALREADY know what she'll say when it comes time to pay for the damages: "After ALL that I have done for you, you little ingrate, how dare you ask me to incur the costs!! You owe me your life!!" Did I mention that I STILL have the DEALER TAGS on the car?!?!?! So she wound up calling me her nickname for me: "SELFISH!" And my grandmother AMAZINGLY calls me the same thing but I don't ask her for anything!!! So tell me world, am I selfish??? And if I am, can you help me?? No criticizing, just some suggestions, please...

She should rent a car if hers is too old for the trip. I am a mother of kids your age but since your car is new I can see your point. She'll never let you forget this though so next time you need something she will remind you of this.

Unfortuately, you can choose your friends but not your relatives. I forsee trouble and a lasting rift if she takes your car and damages it. Don't want to see you on "Small People's Court." This reminds me of some small claims dispute you'd see on TV with close relative suing each other.

Perhaps, since she bought you the car, you could offer to pay for a rental? Tell her your relationship is too important to you to have the car cause a rift and offer to pay for a rental instead.
