I had a book requested with conditions that it wasn't around cats, dogs or smoking. While I can MAYBE understand why someone would have those conditions (severe allergies), where can I state that I am a dog-friendly household so that a requestor could easily see it rather than me having to deny their request?

Thanks for the help! *Amber*

I don't really know of any other way to let folks see at a glance your books come from a pet household. Thanksfully while I am allergic to anything with fur it is their saliva that makes me sick...not actually their fur so unless they have licked your books I am fine LOL!!

Amber - you can put something in your signature line, like I do, and also on your profile page.

It's not a perfect system, but people with severe allergies and conditions are routinely denied books that don't meet thier requester conditions, so no need to worry about it.  It just rolls over to the next person who has the book, and eventually they get one.  The nicest thing you can do is deny it quickly, so they don't have to wait for 5 days for the request to time out and move to the next person.

I usually try to tag the books, like ~ "I smoke" or "I have indoor guard dogs". Then in my profile I state very profoundly that I do smoke & I do have indoor guard dogs" ~ meaning large pit bulls. This way they know I have big dogs & they do smell like a big dog, LOL. Big dogs do have a big dog scent, unlike a miniture toy breed or smaller dog. We do bathe them often but then they smell like " A BIG WET DOG" , LOL. But, I do wish that there was a way people could know who they are asking for a book from, so they could read our profiles? It would eliminate our refusals/cancels.

The not-around-pets conditions really used irk me.  It's not like I let my cats pee on the books and then ship them out to somebody!  My cats are well behaved *and* my books are kept in plastic bins until I ship them.  Before I ship, I inspect each book to be sure it's in good condition.

When I get a request from somebody with the no-pets condition, I know that person is going to be hard to please anyway, so now I happly decline the request and save my book for somebody else.

Since books are ordered through the FIFO system, tagging your books, .sig or account won't do any good.  Not much you can do about it - many people will have requestor conditions pertaining to pets, unfortunately.

speaking for those of us that have pet allergies...(though I at this point don't have a pet restriction)...it is for me the cat dander and hair that I'm allergic too...we are not "hard to please" individuals...
