I posted several volumes of an 8-part series.  Book 3 was requested immediately and Book 8 was on WL Hold.   I set both books aside, printed the address for Book 3, wrapped it and mailed it.  Now Book 8 has been requested, and to my dismay, I found I still have book 3 and Book 8 is missing from the set-aside pile!  Both books have similar titles and covers and I must have picked up the wrong one by mistake.

My first instinct is to PM the Requestor of Book 3, explain the mistake and send him Book 3 immediately.  I would also like to ask him to mail Book 8 to the second person and give him the credit to cover his cost.  Is this correct?  Or should I ask him to return the book to me and give him the credit to do so?  And how do I expalin the mess to the person who requested Book 8?

I feel awful about this but I can't believe I'm the only one who's done something dumb.  Thanks for any advice

Mixups happen all the time. I was on the receiving end one time. The sender didn't know until I got my book and it was the wrong one. She sent me and the other person eac a credit and the other person's address (she checked with each of us first) and we sent them back out.

Send the book you have to the person, (PM first) and ask if she will send the wrong book you sent on to the other person if you give her a credit. Make sure she understands not to mark her transaction until she gets the right book from you. Then contact the other person and explain what happened and ask them if it's okay for you to give their address to the one who was sent the wrong book.

This will cost you an extra credit, but it's an oops moment to learn from and at least you caught it before both books were sent, which would have cost you two credits.

It could be that the person who gets book 8, will be happy to give you a credit for it, if it was on their wish list, too. So, mail book 3 to them, since that's what they ordered, and ask them if they would either give you a credit for book 8, (if they wanted to keep it), or if they could just remail it to the proper requestor ( and you give them a credit to cover the postage). If your first person wants to keep it, just cancel the new order for book 8, or if the first person will mail it out again, then mark it mailed when the requestor remails it, or if the first person doesn't want to be bothered, then just cancel the new order for the book.

Thanks for the help.  The second person isunderstand but I haven't heard from the first person yet.  I've already mailed out the correct book to him.  Hopefully this will all work out in the end.  I will certainly pay more attention to titles in the future.
