This is a beautifully written book about 4 generations of women, and how each woman has such a tremendous impact on the generations after her. Mifalda, Lu, Rose, and Carrie have all suffered from their personal demons. After Carrie's mother, Rose, dies, Carrie decides to learn more about her mother and in her search, she learns more about herself.

Was a quick read. I normally like to read historical fiction but really enjoyed reading this book. Nothing earthshaking but a nice, easy read. I'd recommend it to take to the beach.

Louise Shaffer's characters always draw me into the story and this book was no exception. Loved meeting Mifalda,Lu,Rose and Bobby.I was eagerly following Carrie's quest to understand her family past and secrets and find her own happiness. But the conclusion of the book felt a little too tidy, happily ever after-a Broadway musical ending.

what can I say I liked this book I read it twice. Actually, it took me until about page 100 to realize i had red it before. The story line was nice and the character development was enjoyable. The story is about discovering your parents had a past that didn't include you and how that past shaped them into the people they became. I did feel sorry for the girl. I wish her mother was a warmer more loving person toward her to spite the circumstances of her life. I found the mother character to be very self absorbed, self righteous and cold. But the other characters make up for her lack of feelings. Overall a nice enjoyable well written book.
