I have enjoyed most of the Noble Dead, in particular the first 3 or 4. This one, book 7, I found confusing and somewhat draggy. The first half in particular was dull. Then it picked up, but Wynn was worse than usual, and became very hard to like. If you read the series then I guess you need to read this one. Otherwise, skip it.

I am a big fan of The Noble Dead, and I have enjoyed the growth and relationships of the characters. However, this installment marking the beginning of a new series was simply not as cohesive and well put together as the previous books. Where it could have been a fantastic addition as far as revelation and furthering the expansion of the story throughout the world the Hendees have created, it falls short. The previous books held an almost flawless level of steady action, tightly written storyline, and complex character histories and relationships, but this one is a shadow of what the preceeding books were. I read this and the following book simply to be versed in the full plot and back history, and am waiting for the Hendees to again produce the excellent level of writing I became a fan of them for.
