I appreciate that Erdrich is much in demand, but when my book group chose her new novel I had no idea of the subject matter. It was very difficult for me to get through the book. Erdrich's prose is beautiful, though she does not use dialog quotation marks in a book where the dialog is so heavy. SHADOW TAG is said to be somewhat autobiographical, which made me appreciate it more.
