Upon picking up this book, the rotation of the world seemed to drag, and time itself came to a grinding halt. In other words, BORING. I had this nagging feeling that the writer was trying to make a point but I couldn't quite place my finger on what it WAS.

What a great treat! Dragonbone Chair (4 volumes) was a very GOOD fantasy series with just the right mix of magic, adventure, coming of age and nicely detailed, descriptive explanations.

Highly recommend this new serices to lovers of George R.R.Martin's "Game of Thrones" Jordan's "Wheel of the World" (Shadowmarch is not a long and drawn out) and Greg Keyes' "Charnel Prince" series. I also liked it better than Mary Zucker Richert's series.

You won't be disapointed.

I am generally a fan of Tad Williams' work. I loved the Dragonbone Chair series and Tailchaser's Song. Despite really wanting to like this series, I found it to be very lacking. The core characters are two-dimensional and simple-minded, but the supporting characters are richer in personality and far more appealing. I think if Williams had ditched the twins, Vansen, and the whole Eddon clan, really, this could have been a really good read.

I wanted to enjoy this book. I really did. I'm a big fan of the "Otherland" series. Unfortunately I got about 100 pages into this tome and put it down out of boredom. Starting an epic fantasy saga can be difficult. Pulling all the threads together and forming a pattern from them takes time. But usually the characters hook you in and draw you on. The characters in this book weren't enough to keep me going.
