Really good book, gives you a bitter sweet portrait of life in Sicily (home of my ancestors). Lots of twists and turns in the plot, great character development. I can't wait to read more!
This is a delightful little mystery..my first of this author's but not my last. It's fast paced and fun. ANd what better background than Sicily...makes me want to return.
This is another of those "foreign" mysteries, a police procedural set in Italy. Their police system is set up so differently than ours is, that it takes a good half of the book to absorb all those differences and really get into the mystery itself. It's also originally written in Italian and in my opinion, the translation is just a bit awkward. However, I do enjoy expanding my horizons and accepting this book for what it is, I have to say I enjoyed it and the main character and I have the second in the series here to read. :)
This is a bit different -- a mystery who-done-it set in Sicily by a popular Italian author, translated into English. Often very funny, witty, insightful -- Inspector Montalbano is a terrific character, wry, intelligent, thoughtful. Very enjoyable mystery, smartly done!!
Very enjoyable and a little different from your usual mystery/detective novel. I look forward to reading more by this author.
Was excited to start reading this series, but unfortunately couldn't even finish the first book. Not sure if it's the translation to blame, but the book is very trying to read, and the story didn't hold me at all.
The 1st in the series, which gets better with each book. Great Sicilian atmosphere, very likable detective.
