My shelf isn't really that indicative of my tastes, because a) I keep the books I really like and b) I tend not to repost books that I don't think are in nice enough shape. I donate a lot more than I post.

Is your shelf like you?

I don't know.  I think my shelf is indicative of a past me, but not a current me.  I go through phases in what style and what kind of things I read.  There are books on my shelf that I did really enjoy and were great reads, however it's not something that truly captivated me enough with characters or situations to warrant a spot on my keeper shelf.  The books that define my true taste and are my favorites don't get posted as I'm afraid I'd never find another copy.

Now the children's books and macho books on my shelf - those are not my books, rather my family's so...yeah.

Edited b/c I can't spell. :)

Mine varies..I also tend to keep a lot and I've also given away a lot of b ooks rather than post them. The ones on my shelf now are either not my taste or are duplicates...you'd be surprised how many are dupes/trips even!

Maybe half and half. I pick up alot of books at my local ubs and I volunteer at the library- so always get first dibs at the sale stuff there, too.

It does reflect my tastes to a degree since I only read historical romance and am very picky, so I choose highly rated books/authors.  It doesn't entirely reflect my tastes, though, because I tend to keep the best ones and my keeper pile is way too big!

I think mine really isn't me & my taste in keeper books or books I really enjoy.  The vast majority of them are the genre I read, but I'd say it's about 25% books I read and didn't care to keep, 50% books that were given to me or I got at yard sales, etc. for a few cents, but wasn't interested in reading, and 25% duplicates of things I already have in TBR or keepers from those same sources.  I guess that makes it about 50/50.

The books on my shelf are all over the genre map so yup! it reflects me. I'm a true blue Gemini and I just never know who I'm going to get when I open my eyes in the morning. lol

I have thought about this so much.  I've always felt like a person's shelf is not really them, because being the type of readers we are, we hoard what we love.  Unless you happen to have a second or third copy of your keeper and you want to share it with someone else.  My shelf reflects me in a way, because there are books on it by authors that I like, but not necessarily my favorite book by that author.  My fitness books reflect me because I'm a health nut.....or at least that's what my kids call me.

I guess the kids books reflect me as a mother cleaning out her house every chance she gets.  Now if only I could put toys on my bookshelf.................

My shelf reflects most of the genres that I like, but not all.  I read a lot of mystery and romance...which are on my shelf.  But I also love biographies, cookbooks and paranormals which I tend to keep, or if I post them, they're wishlisted and gone in a day.

I would not say so, due to the fact that I often buy books at thrift stores or garage sales to post, and don't even read them myself.  Of course some books on my shelf are books I have read and enjoyed, but someone looking at my shelf wouldn't know which ones they were.  I also post books belonging to other family members, and those are definitely not me- I'm not into Goosebumps myself!

Not really. Most of the books I read are WL or get requested pretty quickly.  Most of the ones on my shelf are books I got as part of ebay bundles that I bought for another book.  Or books I bought and just couldn't get into.  I did post a few recently that I plan on reading. I posted them because there were a lot of them in PBS already.  My account is on hold right now to hold off on getting anymore WL books until I catch up with the ones I have already.  So I figured, I'd let a few books work their way up the FIFO ladder.  Hopefully I won't get a BOB offer for them either.  But it doesn't really reflect me right now.  I read a lot of non-romance/non-mystery but they've pretty much all been WL books and so aren't on my shelf.

Not so much.  I keep the books I really love, and a lot of what I post is wishlisted so it never really makes it onto my shelf at all.  I have a lot of books on there that I read a year or two (or more) ago, and I recently ran across a cache of historicals from 7-8 years ago that I need to post.

My keeper shelf? Yes.  I'm pretty picky about what I keep "forever".  It has to really knock my socks off and/or make me cry and want to read it again.

My actual bookshelf for others to shop from I think is hit and miss.  Some books I got thinking "oh cool!  that sounds like a great story!" but ended up being so-so.  Other books on there are totally me but not good enough to keep.

well, dang, this is sort of bad news because as I've gotten to know many of you, I will tend to go to your shelves because I like what you recommend.  Good thing we have the other topic where we can exchange amongst ourselves!

So, funny, my shelf is about half me.  Many of the books I read are from the library.  The books on my shelf either I didn't like, or liked but don't want to use space to keep.  I'm not a huge keeper.  At least not since I started with PBS and have found SO many books to read.  What I have a lot of are books waiting to be read!

i've only read 19 of the 62 books on my bookshelf here.

partly that's from the big pile of Harlequin Presents from my unread shelf i'm trying to get rid of, partly that's from books i've gotten from mom & my aunt that they didn't want anymore, there's a few that were in good shape i picked up to try to trade, and there's a few things that have been on my unread shelf for years that i finally gave up on.

Mine does not. I buy from thrift stores and  friends pass books on to me. I do post the ones I have read I don't really keep to many. I don't normally re-read them. Unless I forgot I have read it and I am half way through so I finish it.

Yes and No. I have some books on my shelf that I've read and enjoyed but decided not to keep. There are also the books I just didn't like and then there are the books that friends and family members have passed on to me to post that I haven't read a word of.

Probably not. Some of the books I've posted were ones I decided not to read, some were books I bought just to post, some I read and didn't like, and a few were ones I read and liked, but not enough to keep. Plus there's the damaged books issues, I am picky about what I repost. Plus there's children's books and military thrillers posted on my shelf, they aren't mine:)

Ive read a couple of the books on my bookshelf, but mostly I post books that I get at used book stores

or thrift stores.

I try to look for all sorts of authors, I tend to like romance and mysteries- so thats what I buy normally.

I think mine bookshelf does reflect me about 80%. I've read most of what is on it but there are a few that I got from various sources that I've not read.
